  • Jumping worms “devour organic matter and change the soil structure”

  •  “They reproduce more quickly and can infest soils at high densities”

 

Identifying

  • 1.5-8” long

  • a narrow band of white around it

  • brown-gray black in color

 

What can you do

  • Monitor your garden’s soil

  • Introduce soil or mulch from reputable sources

  • Some gardeners use a mustard powder drench (1 gallon of water+1/3 cup ground mustard seed) to drive worms to the surface for removal

  • Remove jumping worms and kill them by solarizing or soaking them in alcohol. DON’T COMPOST THEM!​
